Un interno muere en el Centro de Detención del Condado de El Paso; cuarta muerte bajo custodia este año

An inmate died Saturday morning at the El Paso County Detention Facility, marking the fourth in-custody death involving the El Paso County Sheriff's Office in 2026, according to KVIA.
Detention officers discovered the inmate unresponsive during a routine physical check of the housing floor around 2:40 a.m. Saturday, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Medical staff and the El Paso Fire Department responded and began life-saving measures, but the inmate was pronounced deceased.
The sheriff's office said there are no indications of foul play at this time.
The Texas Rangers, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Sheriff's Office Internal Affairs Division are investigating the death as required by standard protocol for all in-custody fatalities. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards has also been notified in accordance with state law.
Of the four in-custody deaths this year, three occurred within detention facilities and one within the Law Enforcement Bureau. The investigations remain ongoing.
