YWCA El Paso Hosts 17th Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes to Support Domestic Violence Survivors
CityBeat Newsroom · October 21, 2026
The YWCA El Paso del Norte Region will host its seventeenth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser Thursday, October 22, at San Jacinto Plaza, according to KVIA. The event opens with park and registration at 5 p.m., followed by the walk at 6 p.m.
Participants can form teams, register as individual walkers for $150, or attend as spectators at no charge. Registration is available online at www.ywcaelpaso.org. Corporate sponsors and attendees with questions can contact walkamile@ywcaelpaso.org.
The signature element of the event is men and boys wearing red high heels while walking a mile to raise awareness and funds for survivors of domestic violence. Following the walk, an after-party will feature live music, food trucks, and signature drinks.
"We appreciate the support we receive every year from men, boys, and families across our Borderplex Region who work with us in the fight to end domestic violence," said YWCA CEO Sereka Barlow, according to KVIA. "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is an event that is more than the walk in red heels. It is a symbol of how far we are willing to go to help women and children who deserve safety and security."
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is an international campaign. In El Paso, the event provides funding for the YWCA's Sara McKnight TLC and Supportive Housing Program, which offers refuge and support to women and children experiencing homelessness, often resulting from domestic abuse or other forms of violence. More information and registration are available at www.ywcaelpaso.org.
