Trump Admin Asks Supreme Court to Resume Big Bend Border Wall Work
CityBeat Newsroom · October 22, 2026
The Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to allow border wall construction to resume in the Big Bend Sector, according to KVIA.
The appeal came one day after U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cardone issued a blocking order on October 2. In her ruling, Cardone wrote that the core issue was whether Congress actually authorized the Department of Homeland Security's border wall construction activities in the Big Bend Sector.
Solicitor General D. John Sauer, filing court documents on Tuesday, called Cardone's decision "baseless" and urged the Supreme Court to intervene to allow the project to proceed.
The dispute centers on two Department of Homeland Security projects that, if approved by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, would result in 89 miles of new border wall infrastructure near Big Bend, according to court records.
The Center for Biological Diversity and the Texas Civil Rights Project filed a lawsuit against the DHS on September 7 challenging the projects.
