San Elizario ISD opens 2026-27 school year with staff changes, enrollment shifts

San Elizario ISD opened the 2026-27 school year Tuesday, according to KVIA. The district announced several changes and initiatives ahead of the new term.

Angel Gonzalez joined San Elizario High School as head football coach, bringing 10 seasons of coaching experience. Gonzalez has worked as a teacher and coach at the high school for the past 10 years.

The district highlighted the academic transformation of senior Hayle Terrazas, who now submits all assignments and competes in multiple sports after initially lacking academic focus in ninth grade. Terrazas has received college offers to play flag football.

San Elizario ISD also recognized the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso for its role in student support. According to the district, the organization provided after-school and summer programming that included academic assistance, creative arts activities, a spring student art exhibition, a color run, and holiday celebrations.

The district reorganized grade levels at two elementary schools despite declining enrollment. Josefa Sambrano Elementary School and Lorenzo Loya Primary School now operate under an early-childhood campus structure serving Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students.

San Elizario ISD operates on a four-day school week schedule.
