Recall petition against El Paso councilwoman faces legal challenges

A recall petition targeting El Paso City Council District 4 representative Cynthia Boyar Trejo faces legal hurdles as organizers push to remove her from office, according to KVIA.

The recall effort follows a contentious June city council meeting that lasted more than twelve hours. Council members voted 5-3 against a proposal to renegotiate and potentially cancel tax incentives for a Meta AI data center under construction in northeast El Paso. Boyar Trejo was among the five council members who voted to block the renegotiation effort.

Public sentiment at the meeting turned hostile as attendees still present chanted "vote them out" in response to the council's decision.

Despite the legal obstacles facing the recall petition, organizers are pursuing their own legal action to advance the effort, according to KVIA.
