CityBeat Newsroom · August 2, 2026
New Mexico State University has terminated David Cobb, who served as assistant head coach, general manager, and running backs coach for the Aggies football program, according to KVIA.
Cobb was placed on administrative leave before the start of fall camp, which began Wednesday. Following an internal review, the university separated him from the program and the institution, an NMSU spokesman said in a statement.
"Our athletics department remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, compliance, and professionalism," the statement said. The university did not disclose the reasons for Cobb's dismissal or provide additional details beyond the administrative action.
Cobb had been with the NMSU football program since 2023. His replacement will be announced in the coming days, according to the athletics department.
The Aggies are currently in the middle of fall camp and will open their 2026 season August 29 against Florida State.
