Incident at Americas High School leaves several injured; one in custody

Socorro Independent School District locked down Americas High School on Friday following an incident between students that left multiple people injured, according to KVIA.

The district said one person involved in the incident was taken into custody by district police. Emergency services transported the injured students to a hospital for evaluation and treatment, according to a message SISD shared with parents.

"An incident between students resulted in injuries to multiple individuals," the district said. "Students involved in the incident have been identified and their parents directly notified. All other students and staff are safe under the supervision of faculty and staff."

The El Paso Fire Department dispatched a FireSTAR helicopter to the school, according to KVIA. The lockdown was lifted by late morning, and the school remained on hold as officials continued their investigation.

The district did not release further details about the nature of the incident or the number or extent of injuries at the time of its initial statement.
