I-10 Widening Project Continues Weekend Closures Between Anthony and Transmountain

Eastbound traffic on Interstate 10 between Anthony and Transmountain will face full weekend closures over the coming months as part of the I-10 Widening West project, according to KVIA.

The Texas Department of Transportation's El Paso division said construction crews will close the highway overnight on Saturdays and reopen it Monday mornings. The closures are necessary for major bridge deck placements, a critical phase of the reconstruction effort.

Crew members have already completed bridge deck work over the past two weekends. Five more eastbound closures remain scheduled, with each of the 14 bridges being reconstructed—seven in each direction—requiring a full weekend for deck placement. Once decks are poured, they require approximately ten days to cure, during which protective blankets and barrel rims shield the new concrete from damage.

While some decks cure, crews prepare additional bridges by installing deck panels and rebar and readying equipment for upcoming pours. On the westbound side, progress continues with crews pouring columns in a coordinated effort involving workers elevated to the structure's height alongside ground teams and machine operators.

TxDOT urges drivers to stay informed about closure schedules and use alternate routes when possible. Motorists are advised to plan ahead given the extended timeline for the weekend work.
