El Paso, Las Cruces under weather alert as weekend storms approach

El Paso and Las Cruces are under a weather alert Friday as meteorologists track a significant increase in weekend storm chances, according to KVIA.

Friday morning brought cloudy skies and elevated humidity levels to the region. Morning temperatures dipped to the low 70s but are forecast to climb to the low 90s by midday, with El Paso expected to reach a high of 94 degrees and Las Cruces 93 degrees.

Thunderstorm chances begin this afternoon and evening at 30%, then increase substantially to 50% over the weekend, according to KVIA. Temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s through the middle of next week.

The alert remains in effect as residents should monitor weather conditions for potential severe weather activity through the weekend.
