El Paso Film Festival Returns With 80+ Films, Oscar-Qualifying Ambitions

The El Paso Film Festival returns this week with more than 80 films and a slate of industry guests, according to KVIA. The event runs September 24–26 at the Plaza Theater in Downtown El Paso.

The festival's ninth edition will showcase documentaries, animated films, and late-night horror features. Attendees will have opportunities to attend workshops, network with filmmakers, and participate in social events alongside Academy Award nominee and film editor Sandra Adair and Nixon Guerrero, head of Troublemaker Studios.

Carlos Corral, the festival's artistic director, told KVIA that the event aims to position El Paso as a destination for independent filmmakers. The festival is working toward becoming an Oscar-qualifying venue, Corral said.

The festival's mission is to support the region's growing film community by creating a professional foundation where filmmakers and artists in the borderland can learn, network, and collaborate. Programming runs from morning through late night across the three-day event.
