El Paso County Commissioners Court will hold a public hearing Monday evening at the Enrique Moreno County Courthouse Downtown to solicit resident comment on the proposed budget and tax rate for fiscal year 2026-2027, according to KVIA.

The hearing begins at 5:30 p.m. Residents will have the opportunity to voice support or opposition to the tax rate, which was first presented at last Monday's commissioners meeting.

The county proposes a maximum tax rate of $0.504 per $100 of assessed property value for next year's budget. However, the actual rate is expected to be lower. The voter-approved rate allows the county flexibility to address various needs and to negotiate a final rate below the maximum.

The current "No-New-Revenue Rate" that the county typically uses stands just over $0.45 per $100 of assessed value.

A second public hearing on the tax rate is scheduled for Sept. 14, when commissioners may adopt the proposed budget. If approved, the budget takes effect Oct. 1.
